Collecties

 English version below

100-250 n.Chr., vermoedelijk gemaakt in Italië.

 English version

Various municipal collections are maintained and exhibited at Centre Céramique, such as the ceramic collections from De Sphinx, the Société Ceramique and Mosa, as well as the Limburg and Maastricht archaeological collections and the glass collection. Pieces from these collections are incorporated into the varied offering of temporary exhibitions on view at Centre Céramique (see ‘exhibitions')

Consulting collections online
A large portion of the collections can also be viewed digitally from your computer at home. You can search a collection via a link shown on the page of that collection. This is the best method for the time being. Of course, you can also search Centre Céramique’s complete digital heritage catalogue. The search options available in the complete catalogue are being expanded in 2014.

Institutional loans
It is a pity when pieces from a collection remain tucked away in storage where the public is unable to view them. Fortunately, this is not the case here. Pieces from the collections are presented to the public both in the centre’s own exhibitions and through loans to museums and other cultural institutions in the Netherlands. For example, you can admire our bronze applique with the head of Silenus at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden from June 14th. There are international loans as well. For example, our model of a potter will be firing his pots in Bouvignes (Belgium).

100-250 n.Chr., vermoedelijk gemaakt in Italië.

No fee is charged for loan requests, but the City of Maastricht does place requirements on how the pieces are exhibited. The organisation or person loaning the piece is required to fully insure the material for the duration of the loan. Loan requests must be submitted to Wim Dijkman or José Peeters at least four weeks prior to the object being put on display. Access is also provided to the collections for research purposes.

Requesting photographic material
The City of Maastricht provides photographic materials free of charge for academic, scientific and other publications under the strict prerequisite that the source of the photo is cited in the publication, and on condition that Centre Céramique receives two copies for its library. For photographic material requests please contact José Peeters.

Private collections
Do you have an object that would fit in one of the collections and that you no longer can or wish to keep? The City of Maastricht might be interested in adding your object to the collection. Unfortunately, private collections sometimes end up in an attic, while surviving family members are not always able to estimate the historic or other value of the collection. It is not rare for private collections to ultimately be thrown away. When the municipal government take possession of pieces the name of the donor always remains attached.

Evaluation
Feel free to contact us if you would like more information about a particular object. You can email your question, accompanied by clear photos, to Wim Dijkman.
If you wish to assess the monetary value of objects in your possession, the best option is to contact an antiquarian or an auction house.

Tip: search the library catalogue for information about the collections.

Projects promoting public access to our collections
Centre Céramique wishes to make every piece in its collections available to the public for digital searches, accompanied by an image. The Instruments, Japanese Prints, Classroom Pictures, Limburg Archaeology and Maastricht Ceramics collections have largely been digitized already.
